About Us

Helping to preserve our past for our future

We are a totally secular organisation. Our aims are simple but important.

To maintain, repair, restore, preserve, improve, beautify and reconstruct for the benefit of the public St Mary Magdalene Church, Shabbington and to maintain and improve the churchyard

Current Projects

We are involved, as supporters, with a number of projects initiated by the Parochial Church Council

New Heating

Removing the old under pew heating tubes which have been condemned and also the ineffective infra-red heaters. All to be replaced with an efficient system.

New Seating

The purchase of new seating to make the space in the Church more adaptable and to provide a centre for the community. Sadly this will mean disposal of some of the victorian pews .

Recording the Churchyard

Although burial records are of course held for the Churchyard no plan has been drawn up of it for some time. The last partial plan was in 1974. We intend to record and plot every grave to ensure no more of our history is lost.

You don't stumble upon your heritage. It's there, just waiting to be explored and shared.

Past Projects

Outside, Inside and Churchyard

Outside

Tik Tok New Clock. In 2009 we had a refurbished clock works and face . It looks as though time stood still while it was being done!

Inside

In 2011 we celebrated the alteration of a damp vestry into a kitchen and toilet. We have also installed a new lighting system.

Floodlit Tower

Churchyard

A generous donation allowed us to install floodlights and the Church looks stunning at night. We have further plans for the lights.
